Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Ghostmails
What is Ghostmails?
Ghostmails is a free temporary email service. You can generate a disposable email address instantly, receive messages, and let them disappear automatically. No signup required.
How long does a temporary email last?
Each temporary email address lasts 1 hour by default. You can extend it up to 24 hours using the '+1h' button in your inbox.
Is Ghostmails free?
Yes, completely free. The service is supported by non-intrusive advertising to keep it accessible to everyone.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Ghostmails works without any registration. Just click 'Generate' and you're ready to receive emails immediately.
Can I receive attachments?
Yes. Ghostmails supports email attachments. You can view and download any file sent to your temporary address directly from your browser.
Is Ghostmails safe to use?
Yes. We don't store your personal information, we use encrypted connections (HTTPS), and all emails are permanently deleted when your address expires. However, temporary email addresses are not suitable for sensitive or confidential communications — never use them for banking, work accounts, or anything that requires long-term access.
Can I send emails with Ghostmails?
No. Ghostmails is a receive-only service. You can only receive emails on your temporary address. This is by design — it prevents spam and keeps the service fast and simple.
Can I use Ghostmails on my phone?
Yes. Ghostmails is fully responsive and works on any device with a modern web browser. No app download required.
What happens when my address expires?
The address and all associated emails are permanently and irreversibly deleted from our servers. There is no way to recover them after expiration.
Can someone else access my temporary inbox?
Your inbox is linked to a secure session cookie in your browser. Anyone with the same device and browser session can access it. If someone else knows your temporary email address, they could send emails to it — but they cannot access your inbox. Never use a temporary email for information you consider confidential.
Why do some websites block temporary emails?
Some websites maintain blocklists of known temporary email domains to prevent abuse, such as fake signups or trial farming. This is their choice and outside our control. It is not a flaw in Ghostmails.
Which languages does Ghostmails support?
Ghostmails is available in 10 languages: English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, Arabic, Bengali, Portuguese, Russian, and Urdu. Language is detected automatically and can be changed from the interface.
Which domain will my address use?
Every address is created on ghostmails.cc. The part before the @ is twelve characters drawn from a cryptographic random source, which makes addresses effectively impossible to guess — an important property, since the address is what mail is delivered to.
An email was sent to my address but never arrived. Why?
Three causes account for almost every case. Your address may have hit its ceiling: each one accepts 50 messages and 50 MB of attachments in total, and refuses anything beyond that. A single message larger than 25 MB is rejected outright. Or the sender's own system delayed or blocked the delivery, which is common for services that maintain blocklists of disposable email domains.
What happens if I clear my cookies or switch browser?
You lose access to that inbox permanently. The session cookie in your browser is the only key to it — there is no account, no password, and no email address of yours on file, so there is nothing to recover an inbox with. The address keeps receiving mail until it expires, but nobody can read it. Copy anything you need before closing the tab.
Can I get the same address back after it expires?
No. When an address expires it is deleted from the database, and a new one is generated at random rather than reused. Treat every address as single-use: once it is gone, anything sent to it afterwards is discarded.
Do you read or scan the emails I receive?
No human reads your messages, and they are never mined, profiled, or passed to a third party. The only automated processing is technical: the raw message is parsed to extract the sender, subject, body and attachments, and any HTML is sanitised before storage so that scripts and other active content cannot execute in your browser.
Can I use a Ghostmails address for an account I want to keep?
No, and this is the one mistake worth avoiding. Password resets, two-factor codes, and receipts all travel by email — once your Ghostmails address is gone, every one of those paths is closed and the account becomes unrecoverable. Use a disposable address only where losing access costs you nothing. Never for banking, government services, medical portals, or work.
